Communities of Practice have been around forever. In Medieval times, we called them Guilds.
People
that share the same profession, also share tips and best practices,
point out resources, ask and answer questions, and provide emotional
support for each other.
They want sustained dialog and open ended conversations about their profession.
They want to learn from other people like themselves that are passionate about their profession.
They want a strong leader, somebody they can trust to filter out the mis-information and scams that are so prevalent on the Internet.
They want to be connected to lots of people because it's more likely that another regular person like them is going to have the solution they need, than somebody in an ivory tower.
Because the Internet has
trillions of web pages, that makes it all the more valuable to have
trusted people guide them in the right direction
1. Keep It Simple, Stupid. Don't overestimate people's motivation..
2. Push the message to your members. Don't wait for them to Pull it from your web forum.
3. Make the message easy to read on small screens. Don't make people navigate, or have to pinch and zoom or scroll sideways.
If your existing email discussion group is having technical problems, not delivering all of the emails, or being phased out by your ISP, you are at the right place.
Mail-List.com has been delivering listserves for the past 20 years, and we are still updating our software to go for another 20 years.
We run our own custom mailing list manager software in the Amazon Cloud that can do everything that GNU Mailman does. You can easily set your lists up here, and transfer the subscriber's email addresses. Then just tell your subscribers about the new address to use, and you are off and running.
Or if you want to keep using your same domain name, you may be able to just change the DNS settings and not have to even mention the change to your subscribers.
If you want to import your existing mail archives into our Searchable Web Archives for each list, we can do that too.
We are in charge of keeping the servers running and the emails being delivered into the inbox of all of your subscribers. In fact, we even have a pricing option that guarantees that we will deliver all of your emails into the inbox.
Our pricing is by how many unique
subscribers you have, not how many lists you have. So if you have lots
of lists, but it's the same people on different lists, there is no extra
charge.
We host our own software and have our own dedicated IP addresses, and only email discussion group email uses those IP addresses. As a result, we have a great repuation at all of the ISP’s.
And even if an email is first blocked as spam, we get around it with an independent system that sends the email out in a different format, from a different IP address. 100% automatically.
We monitor the inbox at a special email address at the large ISP’s to verify that our email are not only getting delivered, but are being placed in the inbox of your subscribers. See Inbox Monitor.
You can see the delivery logs of all of your subscribers in near real time. You can proactively see the delivery statistics for any message that is sent, or troubleshoot any email address that is reporting a problem to you.
Use our Clickable Attachments option and bypass the spam filters. People send in any attachment as usual, and our system saves that document in the Cloud, and automatically inserts the link into the email. So instead of a big email with an attachment, it’s a small email with just a link to the attachment.
Just copy and paste the email addresses, and load them into our system. No confirmation process needed. So you can make a quick and smooth transfer of your mailing list.
